Greek Island Evia VILLA AMALTHEA for rental 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms sleeps 8 - 12
(Amalthea, in Greek mythology, was a sacred goat that nourished the infant Zeus when his mother Rhea hided him in a cave on Crete island to save him from his father. Amalthea's horn is the origin of the cornucopia - this refers to Zeus breaking off one horn and endowing it with the power to become filled with whatever the bearer might wish. The cornucopia was the horn of plenty, and it symbolized an abundant harvest)

and the big glass panels leading to the outside, open vista, sitting veranda.
To the right a door separates a shower room with two bedrooms on each side, one with a double bed

The villa is fully equipped with accessories for the 3 outside barbeques! There is an imitation one, with gas and lava stones, by the entrance' s veranda, necessary during the dry season when it is forbidden to light a fire. The second one is by the kitchen's veranda,
and the last one (a later addition) is protected under a big platani on the ground floor.
This is an ideal place for dinning al fresco, with its 2 built tile-covered tables and benches. Guests can choose between four other places to relax or dine. There is one long dinner table inside,
by the panels and just outside on the terrace other furnished tables

AREA
Evia, though the second largest Greek island after Crete, is still unspoiled by mass tourism, offering visitors a chance to experience the real beauty of Greek island life. The countryside is varied mountains, valleys, plains and lakes with typical Greek villages nestling into the hillsides or stretching along the coast. Few English people have discovered its charms. All wait to be discovered.
Transport
Traveling to Evia has the advantage of being accessible from Athens airport by car.
There are two alternatives:
1. From the new Eleftherios Venizellos airport at Spata, drive on the north highway for 200 km till the port of Arkitsa, where the ferry crosses to Aedipsos (Edipsos) in 50 minutes
After that, slightly further North, it is only 30 minutes easy drive to the picturesque village Pefki set in a pine forest.
Or
2. after 130 km, exit at Halkida, the capital of Evia, where a Bridge connects the island to the mainland. Take north direction, crossing varied countryside towards Limni, Aedipsos Istiaea.
Follow the signs to Pefki. It is 120 km, with a lot of turns, but the scenery is very rewarding
Another way is to avoid Athens and the traffic completely.
1. Take a flight to Skiathos, hire a cub to take you to the port and then aboard the "Flying Dolphin Ferry" in 25 minutes reach Pefki. Car hire can be arranged, should you choose this option
To reach the villa, don't turn towards Pefki, but continue for another 3 minutes till the sign uphill to the village "Gerakiou". Take this road and drive on for 5 minutes till you see on your left a first glimpse of the house
Just at the turn, there is a pathway to the villa's imposing wooden gates
Drive through and park under the shade!

Location
Isriea is 15 km away. Pefki, 800 m away, is the nearest village with shops
This lovely, warm, spacious country house stands on an one-acre property, on the island of Evia, approximately 30 kilometers north of the port of Aedipsos and only a short distance away from several beaches.
Situated above Pefki in a secluded area is ideal for people who enjoy peaceful vacations and artists who enjoy Greek landscape paintings. Hidden by pine trees and foliage, yet it offers panoramic mountainous – north coastal view of the Aegean Sea and the Magnesia, across.
Pefki is very popular with Greek holidaymakers for two months: July and August. In this sort period the village blossoms. Clubs, pastry stores and children's amusement park, all come to life.
